The Jerusalem World Center will serve many purposes, but at the heart of this wonderful new building, as at the heart of everything we do at the Jerusalem Prayer Team, is prayer. From the beginning this movement has been a prayer campaign. There are many things we do to meet the needs of the Jewish people, many efforts to influence world leaders to support Israel, many initiatives to educate Believers about the threats of antisemitism and replacement theology. But our central purpose is to be a prayer movement.
The war against God’s Chosen People that we see in the news day after day is not new. It began centuries ago as part of the enemy’s effort to prevent the birth of Jesus. His plan was to destroy the Jewish people, and thus maintain his control over the world that began with the Fall. Throughout the Old Testament we read of attacks against the Jewish people…Pharaoh’s order that all the boy babies be killed at birth…constant attacks by the Philistines…the armies of Sennacherib and Nebuchadnezzar invading and murdering Jews by the thousands.
The attacks only increased as history moved forward. The Romans destroyed the Temple and much of Jerusalem in 70 AD following a revolt against their rule. In the second century they dispersed the remaining Jewish people throughout the empire and removed the very name of Israel from every map and replaced it with their version of the name of Israel’s ancient enemies the Philistines—Palestinia.
Through the centuries that followed, the Jewish people were subject to bigotry, persecution and mass murder. From the Spanish Inquisition to the mass hysteria that accused Jews of starting the Black Plague, from the pogroms of Russia to Hitler’s Holocaust, and now again today with Iran’s nuclear threat, God’s Chosen People have faced death and destruction again and again.
And it can all be traced back to the hatred of Satan for the Jewish people. Because this is ultimately a spiritual battle, it can only be fought and won with spiritual weapons. No victory can be gained in the natural realm until it has first been won in the spirit realm. Today Believers from around the world are gathered together in fervent intercession for Israel…but we must do everything we can to increase those prayers—encouraging more and more people to join with us in this vital cause.
Having this prayer headquarters in Jerusalem will provide us the framework and infrastructure to help the Jerusalem Prayer Team grow larger and stronger. As we expand our prayer efforts to meet the growing threats Israel faces, the Prayer Center in Jerusalem will serve as a hub to distribute urgent prayer requests and inform Believers of threats as they arise.
But the Prayer Center will provide another vital resource as well. We foresee a day soon when this center will be staffed twenty-four hours a day with trained prayer warriors who will be able to pray along with you for your most urgent needs. The power of two of God’s children joining together in faith and agreement unleashes the power of Heaven in miraculous ways.
Jesus said, “Again I say unto you, That if two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven. For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them” (Matthew 18:19-20). We look forward to being able to join with you in seeing the power of Almighty God working in your life to meet your needs and answer your prayers.
The Prayer Center at the Jerusalem World Center will be a fulfillment of the prophecy of the prophet Isaiah. “Also the sons of the stranger [Gentile believers], that join themselves to the LORD, to serve him, and to love the name of the LORD, to be his servants, every one that keepeth the sabbath from polluting it, and taketh hold of my covenant; Even them will I bring to my holy mountain, and make them joyful in my house of prayer: their burnt offerings and their sacrifices shall be accepted upon mine altar; for mine house shall be called an house of prayer for all people” (Isaiah 56:6-7).
